With several name changes before finally adopting the name they are currently known by, the San Antonio Spurs began their tale as the Dallas Chapparals in 1967 in the erstwhile American Basketball Association (ABA). Today, they are one of the four teams from the ABA to remain intact in the NBA after the ABA-NBA merger of 1976, and the only one to have won a championship.
Over the course of their career, the Spurs have emerged as a five-time NBA championship team, who have also netted 20 divisional titles.
